Our Story

FabricSmiths was launched in 2020

Frustrated by the high costs and endless hurdles that keep beautiful surface pattern designs trapped on computer screens instead of translated to fabric or products, Sharon asked her husband Steve if it was possible to build a website that provided an affordable, convenient way for her to turn artwork into real products.

FabricSmiths not only provides a platform for Sharon's artwork, but also provides an affordable, convenient way for creative entrepreneurs to turn their artwork into touchable products, all stored in their own private collection – no minimum orders, no overseas headaches, no compromise.

2025 has seen the launch of FabricSmiths direct-to-consumer product range, built using high quality curated art from selected design resources.

More about Sharon

Sharon's surface design journey started in the 90s, when she studied Textile Design at The Scottish College of Textiles, now School of Textiles and Design at Heriot-Watt University. Throughout her degree program, firsthand observational drawing, particularly of botanical and natural inspiration, was emphasized. In addition to a deep love of all things floral, a lifelong love of observational drawing and printed pattern has guided her design style.

With a Master’s and Bachelor’s from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, plus decades spent designing, teaching, and leading teams in the global printed and woven textile industry, Sharon is ideally qualified to help FabricSmiths become the leading online resource for accessories, home décor and interiors.
